The Pan-African Women's Panel

The Pan-African Woman is one of the Pinnacles of existence. Does society see this? Through this panel we hope to answer key questions that set the tone throughout the See My World Festival. Questions such as: How do we explore our destiny? What are we doing to overcome austerity? Why does society hyper sexualise our bodies? How do we solidify a strong sense of togetherness to continue forming a more inclusive and equal system for ourselves, our families and our children?

Strong, powerful, educated and experienced leaders such as Joanna Jarjue, Dr. Erinma Bell, Dr. Marilyn Comrie, Melody Umsu Gensec, Letitia, Lola Sheniyi and Cheryl Martin, our panelists, have demonstrated that steering rather than riding in the vehicle of change is the best way to navigate towards a common goal.

This panel is an open discussion exploring provocations and inspirations from the UK’s Pan-African intergenerational women, relating to race, identity and leadership in a solution focussed approach to our self-determined human experience.

‘Closer To My Dreams.’ Dance by Chad Taylor

Closer To My Dreams is an emotional journey of two brothers who tell and share stories from their inner circle as they forge their way toward independent maturity. Through a performance of sheer physical poetry the piece grapples with the pressures on young black British men to perform certain roles in their relationships with their fathers, mothers, friends and brothers. In a playful, heartfelt and unique take on family and friendship it explores universal questions of how we respond to the trials and tribulations that life throws at us, what path to take, when to hustle and When to let go?

With its message about the importance of being true to our dreams and ourselves Closer To My Dreams is a thrilling mix of dance, spoken word and music, which traces the gestures and relationships, connections and disconnections of three friends expressed through Chad Taylor’s distinctive hip hop choreography.
