What was the historical context to it, why did it happen in Manchester, who attended it, and why was it, and still is important? Featuring; Professor Hakim Adi, Marika Sherwoord, Terence Dooley, Dr Jade Munslow Ong and Tunde Adekoya

Broadcast from the Newly refurbished MMU Arts faculty, previously Chorlton Town Hall where the 1945 Pan-African Congress had taken place, we launch ‘SEE MY WORLD’ with a plethora of exhibitions, conversations and performances, featuring Akala, SuAndi, and Tania Camara. In partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester Poetry Library

Prof. Hakim Adi sets the scene, providing context as to why the 1945 Pan-African congress took place in Manchester and why it was so significant in its cause to present a new world equality for idigenous and Pan-Arican people moving forward.

Nai Davina, a certified Yoga Teacher, well being advocate for over 10 years and founder of Meta Yoga, uses holistic approaches as tools to achieve overall mind, body soul alignment. She incorporates African Tai Chi (Hudu, moving with the elements)into her fluid yoga practice. This finely attuned practice focuses on body, mind and space alignment to achieve optimum health and well being, self elevation and self preservation through rhythmic breathwork, postures, and mindful movements. Nai Davina will deliver a combination of Hudu (African Tai Chi) postures with Pranayama/ Breathwork to help bring the physical body, vibratory body and mind into alignment. This combination is based on the Smai Tawi (African) Yoga system and is specifically designed to reconnect us to our true origins.

Designed in collaboration between 42nd Street & Courtney Hayles This workshop will provide you with some helpful tools to better understand trauma and how it may have played an intrinsic role within your life. We will explore the reasons that cause you to fight or take flight whenever a situation triggers a suppressed memory, often inherited from generations past. This interactive, digital workshop has been created to allow young people of colour, specifically those from African-Caribbean backgrounds, to explore the causes, challenges and impact of mental health issues and how the subject of mental health is represented in the black community. This workshop aims to help young people understand trauma, the physical manifestations that are associated with it, and the tools that they can use to be more self-aware, develop coping strategies and support their emotional wellbeing when faced with challenging situations. Delivered by The ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relation Resource Centre and Education Trust To mark the 75thAnniversary of the 1945 Pan African Congress held in Manchester, this interactive Workshop will explore the value of archiving photographs and documents, highlight the importance of preserving Pan African and other ethnic heritage using both traditional and non-traditional methods of archiving. Drew Ellery invites participants on a digital tour of the 1945 Pan African Congress Archive held at Manchester Central Library, reflecting on both old and new methods of preserving and interpreting archives. He will also lead a tutorial on how to digitise your photographs and documents, as well as reflecting on issues around consent and copyright. Get tickets here

Big People Community CIC revisit key questions that have come out of the many different discussions and conversations throughout the weekend, with the intention to create a mantra.

Young people have always led the way with technology, and now a generation of digital natives is growing up. Lost Online is inspired through young people and families’ use of dance challenges on TikTok and Instagram and creates a conversation between social media and hip-hop dance. Choreographer Chad Taylor allows dance to move between people who are physically apart, so they can dance together without being in the same place.

Trapped in a system, distracted by false identities and illusions of power, Traplord of The Flyz explores how socially disenfranchised young Black men grapple with blisteringly current themes from police brutality to crime, drugs and gang culture. Mediated through the influences of Trap, Grime and Hip Hop, this visual piece utilises a raw and confrontational style of dance, movement and spoken word to explore hard-hitting ideas on the stereotyping of Black men in Contemporary society. "Deferred dreams when slug’s scream, scattered like dropped jelly beans next to ice cream. Fist’s full of pistols, tales of another ghetto story theme. Same narratives with no additives, street corners with fresh candle wicks are blacks just fast-food for the pigs.
